Bridge of Solidarity was born on the very need of poor refugees medically underserved for language barrier and high cost of their treatment, be it surgery or treatment of chronic disease and particularly epilepsy poorly addressed by urban humanitarian agencies

How do we work?

Technology & Innovation
Partnership and Networks

This report provides an overview of the activities carried out within the "Social Media Marketing, Employability & Scholarships Training" program, initiated by Bridge of Solidarity (BSO) and supported by Bill Crew International and Spirit in Action. This program aims to equip refugees, especially young college graduates, with skills in digital marketing, employability, and access to academic opportunities. The primary objective is to help these young people overcome economic barriers and build a sustainable future

Transparency is a cornerstone of BSO operations. We maintain clear financial records, adhere to ethical fundraising practices, and are accountable to both our beneficiaries and donors. This ensures that resources are used efficiently and for their intended purposes.

A doctor, volunteered to treat those refugees who could not access the health facilities for language barrier since 2015. Most of refugees were not able to speak English or Luganda used to communicate in Uganda. She started with her friends contributing to rescue the most vulnerable, and step by step, she advocated and linked her patients to other organizations which could help. In working on the field, other needs emerged with women who needed medical and psychological care for the sexual/torture violence victims and specific needs for patients with epilepsy, ophthalmologic and skin care of albino as well as their livelihood support. The activities kept growing in providing food, rent for families about to be expulsed, funding small businesses and later in 2021, we decided to found Bridge of Solidarity in order to have a legal frame of working and have bigger impact.

Bridge of Solidarity is a community-based organization, registered under WCBO/21/7129 on 8th September 2021.

Finance & Investing

Our activities are mainly possible because of individuals: refugees from Bridge of Solidarity leadership and other individuals. With advocacy, lobbying, and networks, other organizations supported in services or kind: Health Soft Power, Global Surgery initiatives, Row Foundation, Caritas Uganda, and Bethesda Medical Center. The latter has played a great role in supporting our epilepsy project and imports on our behalf antiseizure medicines donated by Row Foundation (Roweepra tablets). We are delighted that other local and international NGOs are joining us to address the needs of refugees and the challenges we face as a CBO: CAP-AIDS Uganda, Spirit In Action/ USA, Solar Links Initiative/ UK, and Bill Crew International/ Australia. In Bridge of Solidarity, we also support other small CBOs in the refugee settlement in liaising with donors, sharing opportunities, increasing their visibility and growth. Bridge of Solidarity is part of the RELON Uganda (Refugee Led Organization Network) and holds the vice chairperson position in the urban committee; we are among the endorsers of the Charter for Change Uganda chapter, and our chairperson is the Health Commissioner in the Burundian Refugee Community in Uganda
